Magazine / Periodical
Encuadernación de tapa blanda. Condition: Muy bien. In-8. #1 Apr/May 1955 - #4 Aug/Sep 1956. (Complete set). Wrappers. Collaboratos : Enrique Rivera, Servando Cuadro, Sergio Benvenuto, Pablo Serra Bordeaux, Horacios Asiain Marquez, Jean Lacroix, Samuel Niszt, Among others. Four issues were published, in book format, between April 1955 and December 1958. In the first three installments, its directors were Roberto Ares Pons, Alberto Methol Ferré and Washington Reyes Abadie. In #4 (which appeared after two years of interruption) the last two retired and in their place were joined by Horacio Asiaín Márquez and Carlos Real de Azúa (who did not write). The formation of Nexo coincides, and not by chance as Rubén Cotelo has already seen, with the disappearance of the pure literary magazines (Numero and Asir) and the emergence of other periodical publications such as Estudios del Partido Comunista or Tribuna Universitaria de the FEUU. All of them (regardless of their differences) emphasize the political and social much more than the cultural. In the case of Nexo, the perspective of culture is resized according to the historical and economic-political categories common to an ideal of Federation Hispanoamericana . The purposes of the journal are set out in #1, 1) publish only essays; 2) fulfill a "mission of investigation and clarification"; 3) serve as an instrument for "an ideological attitude in formation." Almost all the enioq ucs display a deeply Christian Latin American nationalism, very close to the populist movements that emerged in the second half of the 1940s (Peronism, Varguismo). Past and present are reviewed in two particularly rich sections: Chronicles of the Great Homeland and De la Actualidad Uruguaya . A quarter of a century later (in 1984), Nexo reappears with the direction of Methol and the sporadic collaboration of Reyes, the other members of the original magazine do not participate. The new orientation is definitely Orthodox Catholic, alien to the arts, dedicating its pages to the political and social analysis of Latin America. Severely critical of Marxism and of the renovating tendencies within the Church, it maintains a permanent rhythm of publication (12 issues in the first quarter of 1988), convinced that in Latin American Christian doctrine she will find a key to a new system of social organization. In the core it maintains the same approaches of the first experience. DICCIONARIO DE LITERATURA URUGUAYA TOMO III. F2.
