Occasional thumb-marking present. Cracking to front hinge with exposed binding, causing board to be slightly loose. Minor pencil marking to front pastedown. Light scuffing to text-block edges. Binding is slightly shaky. Boards have moderate edge wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Soft crushing to spine ends. Mild sunning to spine and edges. Light water staining and black marking to all surfaces. Slight scuffing to edges. Book is slightly bowed.

Boards lightly handled, cloth is clean, gilt very bright. 422 pp text is gilded on all edges, it is tight and securely bound with all 7 plates and tissue-guarded frontispiece present. This was a gift book to a student at the Girls Public Day School Co. Ltd. and Central Newcastle High School is embossed in gilt into the rear cover as well as on a tidy prize label affixed to the front free endpaper. Not a former 'Library' copy, no card pocket or evidence of ever having had one, all pages present. No library call tags on spine. Belting condition.
