Seller: Cat's Curiosities, Pahrump, NV, U.S.A.
First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Photography by David Alexander and Peter Sorel (illustrator). 1st Edition. Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm stereo vinyl movie soundtrack record album, Atlantic SD 16017, near-mint vinyl in a "good" cardboard jacket with considerable edge rub. The Brothers offer "Gimme Some Lovin'," "Sweet Home Chicago," "Jailhouse Rock," and "Theme from Rawhide." Cab Calloway performs "Minnie the Moocher." Aretha offers "Think." The band performs the theme from Peter Gunn. Background vocals on "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" arranged by Paul Shaffer. The studio wanted to replace cast members James Brown, Cab Calloway, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin with younger performers, including "Rose Royce" (No, not the "Somebody Help Me" outfit -- that was Full Blown Rose), complaining such older R&B stars were "has-beens." (Did someone "not get it"?) Then Ted Mann, head of the Mann Theatres chain, which dominated film exhibition in the Western United States, told director Landis he would not book the film at any theaters in predominantly white neighborhoods, out of fear it would draw too many black patrons. Nonetheless, the film triumphed, opening behind only "The Empire Strikes Back," bringing in four times its budget (actually grossing more overseas than in the U.S.), and winning praise even from -- wait for it -- L'Osservatore Romano, for its "Catholic themes." Reduced from $14.
