Previous owner's inscription to half title page. Noticeable creasing to gutter. Cracking to hinges and gutters, leaving netting exposed. Front and rear boards are loose but still attached. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Some crushing to spine ends. Visible tanning to spine and edges. Some splits to spine ends. Marks overall. Binding is slightly shaky, but pages remain intact.

Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with noticeable staining, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Spine caps are softened with fraying at the heel. Top edges gilt. Light foxing/toning on the endpapers. A previous owner has left a news clipping with a lengthy obituary for the author dated in pen-'05 glued on the back paste-down. Otherwise, pages are lightly age-toned, clean and unmarked. William Cowper Prime,1843 graduate of Princeton University was an American art historian, attorney and travel writer who owned land in the White Mountains dedicated to camping. The obituary cites his local fame as an authority in trout fishing. For many years he was also first vice-president of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
