EARLY REPRINT circa 1910, inscribed 1914, oblong 4to, 205 x 265, 8 x 10½ inches, cloth backed grey boards, coloured illustration to upper cover, lettered red, spine plain, grey endpapers, pages folded Japan style. 24 delightful colour plates each facing a few lines of text. Corners and board edges slightly worn, some light scratching and a few tiny grazed patches along edges of boards, front inner paper hinge partly cracked, staples very slightly rusty, binding sound. Neat inscription on verso front endpaper, occasional slight faint foxing, otherwise clean, 1 japan fold opened. A very good copy. First published undated in 1903 with imprint London, Glasgow and Dublin. Blackie dropped Dublin from the imprint after 1910. The first edition was in the same format except that the title was printed on the spine and the little girl on the upper cover had a red coat and hat. This Irish illustrator was a successful sculptress specialising in studies of children. MORE IMAGES ATTACHED TO THIS LISTING, ALL ZOOMABLE. FURTHER IMAGES ON REQUEST. POSTAGE AT COST.
