G PB. Petrarch was the most remarkable man of his time. Interior very good condition, cover tanned on edges, stamp used on bottom fore edge. Petrarch was aware of the entire continent on which the drama of European life was being enacted, and of the reality of times past and times to come. He was a gardener, a fisherman, and a lutanist. He was remarkable for the high distinction of his writings, for his persistent belief in Rome as the rightful capital of a unified world, for his scholarly precocity and for the valiant industry of his old age, and most of all for the vast range, the deep loyalty, and the unfailing helpfulness of his friendships.
