Hard cover laminated pictorial boards, 246pp, b&w plates. Very light wear to board edges, page edges lightly browned; a very good copy. Inscription title page by Petersen to former owner. In 1963, Captain Arthur Barry Petersen, then a member of the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam, was sent to Darlac Province to recruit and train a special force of Montagnard troops which were financed and supported by the CIA. The tiger men of the Truong Son Force developed into a highly efficient guerilla unit. Working in the highlands of Vietnam was a political education for Petersen. Antagonism between the Montagnard and the new Vietnamese settlers and overlords was high. He played an active role in defusing the revolt which resulted from the simmering resentment between the two peoples and was awarded the Military Cross. Intrigue between the CIA, the French and the bordering Cambodian and Laotian nations was also a dangerous background to his work. Despite his success, however, in 1965, CIA intervention led to his removal from the highlands. This is his story of the development of a highly successful concept of warfare.
