Illustrated endpapers showing a sketch map of the Ballarat gold fields, 1851. Black-and-white photographic frontispiece of author, dressed in 19th-century style clothing. The text is illustrated with coloured and the occasional black-and-white drawing by R. Paul Learmonth. Illustrated grape coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. The title says it all household law, cooking and general hints for the household as garnered from the Pioneer home. The book was bought from Sovereign Hill  a Reconstruction of a 19th-century Australian gold mining town, and on page 7 there is a sticker stating "From Sovereign Hill Ballarat, number 3521". The book is showing age and wear. Chipping to the book corners and to the lower back strip edge. The top back strip edge shows result of insect activity, there is a small spot further down and to the rear front fore edge also due to insect activity. Rubbing of the book edges and panels with fading of the back strip. Browning of the text block edges and pages. Previous owner's sticker to the top edge of the free front endpaper.
