Seller: Cat's Curiosities, Pahrump, NV, U.S.A.
Book
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Copyright date 1939, under which we find a Roman numeral III and the code 49151. But cover price on this trade paperback is $1.50, and other titles listed to rear wrap date from the early 1950s, the latest apparently being Allen's "Relaxation Methods in Engineering and Science," published 1954, which (since that's about when dad entered teaching) we thus take as a good approximation of actual publication date of this copy. "Very good minus" with some modest rub to wraps and light, partial spine creases, but as with any old paperback we'd advise against forcing the pages open too vigorously. Dad has written his name lightly to top right of front wrap. A satire of educational methods. 139 pp. Reduced from $40.

Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good Plus. No Jacket. ?Copyright 1939? to the copyright page. Very gently read. Few number letter notations, a faint blue stamp of ?$430? and a thin remnant strip of white paper to the top edge of the ffep otherwise the interior is clean and unmarked. 9cm wide area of loss to the bottom edge of pp.59/60, text unaffected. Cloth boards (hardcover) are gently bumped to extremities, three small red-ink letters to the front board and minor soiling to show. Without dustjacket (as issued?). A very nice copy of the scarce 1939 hardcover. A satiric look at education, universities and academics apparently fueled by Tequila Daisies. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Fine. No DJ as issued. Scarce Memorial edition. Leatherbound book in a Brown Leatherbound Slipcase. First published The Saber- Tooth Curriculum in 1939, and it has remained a classic bestseller to this date. The book is just as relevant and applicable to the key questions in education today as it was when it was first published. With tongue firmly in cheek, Peddiwell takes on the contradictions and confusion generated by conflicting philosophies of education, outlining the patterns and progression of education itself, from its origins at the dawn of time to its culmination in a ritualistic, deeply entrenched social institution with rigidly prescribed norms and procedures. This fascinating exploration is developed within a fanciful framework of fictional lectures, given by Professor J. Abner Peddiwell, doyen in the History of Education at Petaluma State College. In a humorous fable, Peddiwell illustrates the progress of education and give valuable insights into how it could continue to develop in the decades to come.
