Staplebound. 41 pgs. Covers irregularly faded. Illustrations. Very good stapled softcover copy. In 1907, when preparations were underway to commission the Relief as a hospital ship, the question of line versus staff officer for command was an issue. When the President chose the latter, the then Chief of the Bureau of Navigation, Admiral Willard H. Brownson, retired rather than issue the command orders. This book is based on the limited edition of From Frigate to Dreadnought, by Caroline Brownson Hart, the daughter of Admiral Brownson, and on an article from The Navy, a weekly magazine published at the time.
