(including 31 outline plates), bound in two identical half leathervolumes with sprinkled boards (new), uncut copies, in-folio 59,5 x 43 cm, titleof vol. I spotted, pp 1 & some plates lightly browned, a few of the usual lightspots but a very good uncut copy. First edition in French and first illustrated edition of the chief work of the Scottish anatomist Alexander Monro (1697-1767). Originally published in English in 1726 (without illustrations, several times reprinted, it was translated into French with the annotations of Jean Joseph Sue the younger (1710-1792), professor of anatomy. The French edition is a magnificent publication, printed on strong paper, illustrated by Jardinier, Aubert & Gobin after the designs of J. Tharsis. ''These plates represent whole skeletons or single bones, the latter either innatural size or in sizes very near the natural. They also represent the skeleton and single bones of the foetus.
