Soft cover. Condition: Poor. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 253 pages (complete). Ex-library copy with consequent wear, usage, labels, marks, annotations. A biography of the extraordinary Katie Makanya whose life (1873 - 1955) saw the lives of the black people in Natal radically transform from people of the land to urban labourers. Written by the daughter of Dr James McCord who employed Katie Makanya for 35 years, who recorded Katie's memories in her last years. A much used book. There is much wear all about. However, the copy is firm, secure and comfortable. There is evidence of readership and use throughout. The pages are clear, sure, assured, utterly involving and singing with an extraordinary voice. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.

McCord initially used an Old treadle-operated Cropper Platen press, then graduated to a Heidelberg Automatic Platen. Having only one set of type, full-page texts were often commercially printed, usually by the Northern Whig Company in Belfast." (Irish First Editions, Catalogue 1442).
