Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Auxins are a group of plant hormones and growth regulators that are synthetized naturally by plants or manufactured artificially, and that play a major role in plant micropropagation. The use of auxins influence cell division, growth, differentiation and in vitro morphogenesis. Thus, auxins have been widely used to induce rhizogenesis, caulogenesis, callogenesis and somatic embryogenesis. Auxins are also known for their role in maintaining apical dominance and plant polarity, and are involved in the plant signaling systems, which allows plant cells to interact among them in response to different exogenous factors and culture conditions. The present book presents the different natural and synthetic auxins, describes their roles and modes of action and reports results from literature that highlight their significant impacts in plant micropropagation. 64 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Thidiazuron (TDZ) is a phenylurea derivative cytokinin-like compound widely used for plant micropropagation. TDZ, has a strong cytokinin-like activity and is mostly used for adventitious shoot bud induction and multiplication. The promotive effect of TDZ on adventitious shoot bud induction and multiplication is mainly due to its potent activity of promoting the production and accumulation of endogenous plant hormones, mainly cytokinins. TDZ was used to induce a wide range of in vitro responses such as callogenesis, organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis. TDZ was also used to prevent leaf senescence, break bud dormancy, enhance the photosynthetic activity and break the apical dominance. In the present book, we reported the main findings regarding the use of TDZ for the development of efficient in vitro regeneration systems in the most economically important temperate, tropical and subtropical fruit species. 64 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Somatic embryogenesis and organogenesis are two in vitro propagation techniques used for the regeneration of complete plants from cells and tissues, based on plant totipotency. These two systems have been widely employed for rapid and large-scale propagation of many plant species, including date palm. In the present book, we describe methods for in vitro propagation of date palm through organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis, based on our own experience in this field and on results from literature. The book is divided into chapters that describe the plant material used for date palm micropropagation and the disinfection protocols. It reports detailed protocols used for organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis, and highlights the main problems encountered during date palm micropropagation. 68 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Cytokinins are a family of plant growth regulators widely used in plant micropropagation. In fact, cytokinins are added to culture medium to promote cell division, differentiation and growth. They act by affecting the concentration of endogenous plant hormones, which results in various morphogenetic responses. Cytokinins are also used to overcome the apical dominance of plants, to promote lateral bud development, to stimulate adventitious shoot bud induction and multiplication and to facilitate seed germination. In this book, we highlight the main biological activities, functions and modes of action of cytokinins, and we report the most important results from literature regarding the role of cytokinins in plant regeneration through different micropropagation techniques. 60 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Olive (Olea europaea L.) is a fruit species native to the Mediterranean region and cultivated for table olives and olive oil production. Olive is generally propagated vegetatively through mist propagation of leafy stem cuttings. However, due to the limitations of this technique, propagation through in vitro culture such as nodal segmentation of elongated shoots (microcutting) and somatic embryogenesis was established. Olive micropropagation can be used for rapid and large-scale propagation of disease-free and/or selected genotypes, and for genetic improvement programs. In the present book, detailed methods for successful in vitro propagation of olive through different techniques such as microcutting, somatic embryogenesis, adventitious organogenesis and micrografting are described, and results from literature regarding olive micropropagation and the application of tissue culture in genetic transformation and cryopreservation technologies are reported. 64 pp. Englisch.

In fact, agricultural production is becoming affected by many factors such as the growing human population, water scarcity and climate change. Under such conditions, cactus pear cultivation could be encouraged since this plant genus is characterized by high adaptability to different climatic and environmental conditions, high genetic diversity that could be used in breeding programs, has many economic and ecological benefits and could be used for multiple purposes. The present book gives an overview on cactus pear cultivation, reports findings from literature regarding cactus pear genetics, describes the recent achievements in using biotechnological tools for cactus pear improvement and finally highlights the main cultivation purposes of this plant genus. 68 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Plant cells, tissues and organs retain totipotency, which is the capacity of a single vegetative cell to reenter a proliferative state, dedifferentiate and regenerate a complete plant. Based on this concept, different micropropagation techniques such as somatic embryogenesis and organogenesis were established, and as a result great advances have been made in basic and applied research in the plant sciences. In the present book, an overview of the historical development of plant cell and tissue culture techniques is presented, the main in vitro culture techniques, the different factors affecting them and their major applications are described, and finally the problems that hamper the widespread use of this technology are highlighted. 68 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -During plant micropropagation, carbon sources play a major nutritive role by regulating and promoting cell division, differentiation and morphogenesis. They also supply the explants with carbon to solve the heterotrophy phenomenon. Carbon sources are used as a source of energy since in vitro morphogenesis is a high energy requiring process. In addition to these nutritive and energy roles, carbon sources have a functional role as they control different cell developmental processes. Besides, carbon sources control the expression of many plant genes as well as their connection to metabolic and developmental processes. Carbon sources have also osmotic functions since they control the different morphogenic responses of plant cells and tissues in culture by changing the osmotic potential of the culture medium, which modifies some cell wall properties such as extension, hardening, and composition. The present book discusses the main nutritional, osmotic and regulatory roles of carbon sources and reports findings from literature that highlight the importance of carbon sources in plant micropropagation. 68 pp. Englisch.
