Published by Vantage Press, New York, 1955
First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. First Edition. Former library copy, binding very good in blue cloth, xiv., 576 clean pp. Ink name stamps and numbers within, white library spine label. From Rosemont College, where Nemec taught for a number of years With Nihil Obstat & Imprimatur."This volume makes available to the English-speaking world a well-documented record of anti-Christian persecution and heroic martyrdom with the historians of the future will have to rank at least with the persecution of the early Christians. The book of the Reverend Dr. Ludvik Nemec, well-known Catholic priest refugee and professor from Czechoslovakia who now lives among us in the free world, takes us into the small, but beautiful and highly cultural country of Czechoslovakia. Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia, Slovakia, Capatho-Ruthenia - all these provinces of Czechoslovakia have a Catholic culture and tradition that is more than a thousand years old. This is the hour of martyrdom for Czechoslovakia, the time for shedding innocent blood, and sealing faith with martyrdom. This period of heroism will furnish the basis for a renaissance of Christian and national tradition. In this contact with modern martyrs, with their example and inspiration, lies the value of this book for now and future times." - Preface by Ambrose Leo Ondrack.

Book
Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. Historic B&W Photographs (illustrator). The Infant of Prague is a statue of Christ as a child raising the index and middle fingers of his right hand. There are histories of miracles and blessings associated with this statue, even before it accompanied a Spanish bride to her wedding into Czechoslovakian royalty in the 17th century. This is a detailed description of the origins and fate of the Divine Infant in His travels and life in Spain (The Holy Childhood was a favorite devotion of St. Teresa of Avila) and in Prague. It also lists places in the world where He is venerated which reads like an historical postcard through 1958. The reader can look up the locations online and see if He is still in these locations today. Many prayers are listed in Latin and English and there are extensive footnotes and bibliographies. I am guessing Fr. Ludvik Nemec, a well-known Catholic priest refugee and professor from Czechoslovakia who became an American citizen, is enjoying his eternal reward now; but we should be thankful for his scholarship and love for the Infant of Prague. "The more you honor Me, the more I will bless you!" Illustrated with 16 B&W plates bound in, but not numbered. xv + 304pp. Any publication produced to be distributed or sold to members of the Catholic Church must meet standards and provide assurances required by the Catholic Church. One assurance is that the information in the publication does not contradict any position taken by the church. A Church official must provide a certification called Nihil obstat (?nothing hinders?) which is a declaration they found no objection that warrants the censoring of this book. The bishop of the author's diocese or of the place of publication (such as a publishing company) gives the final approval by the declaration known as the Imprimator (?let it be printed?). This publication provides those assurances. Hardcover has red leatherette boards with gold lettering on spine, but no dust jacket. The only markings are a catalog and price on ffep. Interior is tight, clean, and text is unmarked. No ownership markings. ? Size: 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall, 335pp. ? Condition: Near Fine (As New) Hardcover without Dust Jacket ? Always privately owned.
