Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Reprint. First published about 1900, this is a 'new and revised edition', no date, but from the frontispiece illustration of a 1920s shingle haired housewife at her 'Modern Electric Cooker' date c. 1920s-30s. dark red boards with black titling, no jacket. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of boards, some dust staining and red splodges (from boards?) to page fore edges, price on front cover (2/6), no inscriptions, internally cleanish tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 247pp, illustrated. A collection of economical recipes for the harassed housewife, by Miss May Little. I have been able to find out very little about her life, apart from the fact that she was probably a housekeeper, later a domestic science teacher, and came from Cromer in Norfolk. The book was very popular and went through numerous editions. Evidently given away by Major's Family Butchery in Brighton to their customers. Major's was one of the earliest business subscribers in Brighton to install a telephone. Quite a scarce book.
