Paper Wrappers. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Small octavo. Pp. 84. Foreword by Paul Goodman. One of the basic documents of early Zionism, published in German in 1882, and here edited with Introduction and Afterword by A. S. Eban, who later took the name Abba Eban, and became a noted Israeli scholar and statesman. This edition of Auto-Emancipation was published at the time of the buildup of Nazi persecution of the Jews. Eban's 10-page introduction is on the Jews in Russia during the nineteenth century, and his 14-page Afterword is titled "Auto-Emancipation and Modern Anti-Semitism." The text is based upon the 1932 edition published by the Association of Young Zionist Societies in 1932. Internally fine but for slight toning of paper; front wrapper chipped and detached; baxk wrapper has spots and a one-inch hole. None of the flaws affect the text.
