Published by Santa Fe: Museum of New Mexico & Press of the Palace of the Governors, 1988., 1988
Revised edition (originally 1984). 43pp, (8.5 x 11 inches), b&w illustrations by Zoe Viles. Very Good condition, loose pages laid between stiff covers. The pages are punched for a 3 hole binder (Original production, not added later). The title page has a soiled area at the lower corner, and the next two pages have just a tiny spot at the very edge of the page (in the same place). Otherwise clean and bright, no tears or creases. This is a how-to book, with a little sample booklet tucked into a pocket on page 21. I think it was originally devised in connection with one of the Book Arts Festivals which were held on the grounds at the Palace of the Governors. They were hands-on events where many phases of the book arts were demonstrated, from paper making to actual printing and binding. There was a special emphasis on working with children and young people and introducing them to the making of books, and this book is in that same tradition.

Book
Soft cover. Condition: As New. Sarah Laughlin (illustrator). Sstapled binding, unpaginated (approx 20 pages). Contains fun illustrations and a brief biography of "Captain Jack" (1847-1917.) known as "The Poet Scout." RARE reprint of the 1987 Hard Cover edition. His daring ride of 350 miles in 6 days to carry dispatches to Fort Laramie for the New York Herald, to tell the news of the great victory of Gen. George Crook against Chief American Horse during the Great Sioux War of 1876-77, made him a national celebrity. He wrote this poem in the late 1880s after meeting the President of Pope Manufacturing Co. who held bicycle patents. Crawford recognized Pope as the office who assisted him after he was wounded on the battlefield 20 yrs. before. Asked by Pope to create a poem for the Boston Bicycle Club, Crawford replied he didn't know bicycles but did know broncos, so would incorporate both for the "crooked tail event." Free mailing to US. Exact cost to Non-US. Wrapped carefully.
