A truly impressive selection of Kirchner's drawings and pastels and paying due homage to Kirchner as an early, important representative of the German Expressionist school of abstract art. Poorly of health, tormented of psyche, E.L. Kirchner committed suicide in 1938. He was singled out for abuse by Nazis in their "Degenerate Art" exhibition that featured recent of his works. Massively heavy, oversized volume in fine condition, being bound handsomely in blue cloth, with sharp and distinct in gilt letterin to spine. Bright and shiny dust jacket, illustrated, showing only very minor wear beyond a bit of furling to inside front flap, protected by a plastic coat, dust jacket not being price-clipped. Introduction by Claus Zoege vonManteuffeland with his commentaries on the voluminous plates. Hans Bolliger provides the extensive biography andbibliographer.
