She uses various types of materials in her artistic constructions, but is especially known for working with plastics and applied synthetic materials. Her self-published: Catalogue 2001 Artist Books Bookworks (Charleroi, Belgium), features this book at pp. [7], as the fourth item in the catalogue and as the second of her "Coloring Books for Adults". The edition is there mentioned as 200 numbered copies (This inscribed copy is not numbered). She gives a very detailed description (in French), of the substances & processes used in producing her really very special Artists Books. The cognoscenti speculate that only a small number of some of the proposed editions were actually completed which accounts for the scarcity of her books. Inscribed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. A spectacular and most unusual Artists Book/Art Object in the form of a square, patterned cloth-covered case, measuring approximately 11 inches x 11 inches, which opens like a book, and is contained within a special envelope, made of plastic bubble-wrap with violet closure strings. The envelope has a small sticker with the artist's signature and the number: 004/300, attached to the front. The specially constructed wooden case with the edges painted in flat black is bound in red, black, tan with a gold leaf-patterned cloth, with a repeated design of the Manneken-Pis statue on a thin plastic strip, mounted on a larger strip of red and gold patterned cloth, which is covered by a matching size strip of clear plastic, on the lower margin of the front cover. Metallic screws & washers are used on the spine and covers. Opening the "Book-Object", inside on the left is a stiff paper folder, held down by a red & gold patterned cloth strip, this folder opens like an accordion, revealing numerous color photographs of sunsets, sunrises, and storm clouds, and which ends with a map showing wind directions on the Atlantic in April and a page of sailboat pictures; these relate to Christine Kermaire s statement at the beginning of these pictures: "Between July 2004 and September 2006, Christine Kermaire realized two Atlantic crossings with her sailing boat. Belgium departure (with as guardian angel "the icon" of Manneken-pis, famous statue situated in Brussels). She photographed the particular Atlantic sky during the depression crossing, a gale between Bermuda and the Azores, a tornado and squalls off Grenadines Islands in the Caribbean Sea." All the photographs are in color. This folder is signed and bears the number 4/300. The inside right contains four small metallic surfaced plastic relief figures of Mannekin-Pis, these are in four different colors: red, gold, green & blue, and are displayed under a clear plastic window. The inside covers are lined with black & gold, leaf-patterned cloth. Christine Kermaire (b. 1953) is a Belgian artist who specializes in Artists Books, working with among other things, plastics and applied synthetic materials. Sailing is also one of her special interests, and is reflected in this Artists Book which documents her voyages. She carried an "icon" of the famous, humorous and beloved 17th century fountain statue of "Manneken-Pis", located in Brussels, Belgium. A most desirable example of her work. A very fine copy. Rare. The cognoscenti speculate that only a small number of the proposed edition were actually completed which accounts for the scarcity of her books. Weight: 3 ½ lb Postage may be extra on this item.
