Book
Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Edward Whymper (illustrator). 2nd Edition. Graded as no better than 'Fair'. Hardback, NOT ex-library. Pocket guide. Green cloth boards with gilt detail of a chalet to the front. Edges scuffed and bumped. Inner hinges split to front and to rear: binding very weak and opening in several places; will require careful handling. Calling card for Edward Digby Murray stuck to front pastedown. Advertising leaflet for hotels in Zermatt, loosely inserted. Periodic toning and light spotting to the text. Single outline map. 21 further illustrations by Edward Whymper. The book is divided into three 'rounds' or trips and includes all the main places and sites. In one example, the author writes about the walks to and around the Reichenbach Falls outside Meyringen [sic], this being a couple of decades before they were made famous by Conan Doyle. Overall, an interesting but very fragile guide. Further information available on request. (Uc4).
