The Regents Restoration Drama Series provides soundly edited texts in modern spelling of the more significant of those plays first produced between 1660 and 1737. Eaxt text in the series is based on a fresh collation of all authoritiative seventeenth and eighteenth century editions. The textual notes record all substantive departures from the editions used as copy text, and variant substantive readings among contemporary editions are also listed. Spelling has been modernised along consciously conservative lines, and punctuation brought into accord with modern practice. Explanatory notes, chiefly concerned with glossing obsolete words and phrases, appear at the bottom of each page beneath the textual notes.
