First Edition
First edition hard back binding in publisher's original avocado green linen cloth covers, gilt stamped title and author lettering to the spine and to the front cover, gilt ruled line to the front cover, top edge gilt, others untrimmed, publisher's grey and russet tiny floral end sheets. Folio. 13½'' x 11¼''. The French archaeologist, engineer, geologist and prehistorian Jacques Jean Marie de Morgan (1857-1924) headed scientific legations in the Caucasus (1886-89) and in Persia (1889-91) before becoming director general of the 'Service des Antiquités de l ' Egypt'. He undertook the first systematic excavations in Dahshur, a necropolis about 26 kilometres south of Cairo on the west bank of the Nile. It was here that he discovered the as yet un-plundered graves of the princesses Mereret and Khnumit, whose extraordinary jewellery can now be seen in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. He also dug at Snofru's Bent Pyramid, at the Red Pyramid, at the Pyramid of Amenemhet III. as well as at the official necropolis. Contains (viii), 118 pp of French text with numerous wood engraved illustrations in the text followed by 27 tissue-guarded plates (partly double-leaf; mostly heliogravures). Just a little tanning to the text block edges and in Very Good sound condition. Heavy volume weighing 2 kg, extra postage and insurance will be requested over and above our default setting for destinations outside of the UK. Member of the P.B.F.A. NORTH AFRICA [Egypt].

Hardcover. Condition: Good. First Edition. Extremely scarce. Number 48 of only 125 copies SIGNED by authors on limitation page near front. Ex-library with the usual labeling. Original textblock professionally rebound in brown cloth boards with gilt lettering. Pages clean, NO foxing or markings. Plates present, clean and vibrant. Binding sturdy. This copy has only plate images of the designs, NO fabric examples, priced much lower than the one other copy on the market because of this and the ex-library labeling. Le Tissage Aux Cartons was published in 1916, and some of its conclusions created considerable controversy.
