Brief biography and background information: Isabel Burton's account of her and her husband's life in the Middle East while Richard Burton was posted in Damascus as consul. One of the reasons for his dismissal from the post was Isabel's religious proselytizing. The frontispiece portraits of Isabel and Richard are quite notable.
