Soft cover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Original printed wraps. 32 pp. 8.75 x 4.00. `There is an amusing story of poet Tim Inkster who went searching for the poetic significance of the raven in northern Ontario. . Stumbling into a local pub after trying to photograph the bird, he found a quiet dark little corner to sip his beer and reflect on the day's work. Sensing something looking over his shoulder, Inkster wheeled around to see a huge stuffed black raven with glass eyes staring him down. It was about as large as an eagle and equally forboding. This story is a suitable preface to the work in this chapbook, The Crown Prince Waits For A Train, because the image of the raven is predominant (along with the train) in dealing with the themes of lost time and the realization of horror.'.

Book
Soft cover. Condition: As New. As described on its website, the Porcupine's Quill "is an artisanal book publisher that values the art and craft of the book in form and content" located in Erin Village, Ontario. Well-known and respected as a publisher of new Canadian writers, the Porcupine Quill was founded in the 1970s and has gone on to publish a variety of works, including four by authors who would go on to be nominated for the Governor General Awards. Edited by Porcupine's Quill editor John Metcalf and publisher Tim Inkster, the Reader is a collection of short stories and anecdotes by the authors who have had an association with the press over the course of its history and provides. Providing something of a behind-the-scenes account of the publisher, it is described as "a tonic for the literary voyeur." This copy is in as new condition and is signed by John Metcalf on the title page.

Soft cover. Condition: Fine. Michael Snow (illustrator). 1st Edition. [32pp] coated stock; stitched in illustrated card covers; 305 x 226 mm pamphlet. Undated anthology conceived by Tim Inkster, with editorial assistance from six fellow students at University College in Toronto (including his soon-to-be wife, Elke Koehler); financed by the Students' Administrative Council. A typically well-designed & beautifully-conceived production, later to become the hallmark of the all-but-legendary Inkster printshop in Erin, Porcupine's Quill (est, 1974). Exquisitely printed on the Heidelberg at NTO Press behind Rochdale College, by Mike Rosenbaum & Rick Simon (New Toronto Press, shortly to house the bindery at Coach House Press). The lead line in the colophon reads: "this magazine is not for sale" (proving in addition, to be the sole issue). With literary contributions by Margaret Atwood; George Bowering; Donald Crowe (the only editor with work included); Allen Ginsberg; Dave Godfrey; David Knight; John Metcalf; John Newlove; Alden Nowlan; Richard Rowberry; Norman Snider; Peter Such; Scott Symons; & Ian Young; & art by Dennis Burton; David Markle; Walter Redinger; & Michael Snow. An obvious attempt to raise the bar for fellow student-publication editors (unquestionably the classiest use of student funds in its day). A lovely copy of this increasingly elusive anthology. Horne C121; Morgan C457 (where he dates it, April 1970).
