Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good Minus. 1st Edition. Stated First Edition. This was Hans Koningsberger's first novel. The publisher praised it mightily as would be expected: 'With extraordinary psychological power, Hans Koningsberger draws the reader along in this haunting journey through the heights and depths of love. The Affair is his first novel, but its surprising insights and its mastery of the rhythms and colors of language will remind the reader of James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. It is a striking novel and one not easily forgotten.' A new edition of The Affair was published in 2002. As you can see from the photographs, the blue covers are in very good condition, very clean and with just a little crinkling at the spine ends. The book is very solidly bound, with absolutely no issues in that regard. The interior of the book is in excellent condition. The pages are exceptionally clean and bright. There isn't any creasing or dogeared corners. There is a shadow of a bookmark on the blank first front and paper. There aren't any markings in this book. There aren't any attachments. At the top corner of the back of the first rear blank endpaper the word 'clue' and date '1959' are penned in very small letters. There is no other extraneous writing to be found anywhere in the book. No names, etc. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photographs. It is rated Very Good Minus due to the light edge wear which includes slight loss at the spine ends. There's also some fading of the spine and some darkening of the top and outer edge of the rear cover. The flaps are in very good condition. The jacket is NOT price-clipped and I've had it fitted into a protective cover as long as I've owned it.
