First Edition
Title page. Trimmed just outside borders. Handsome woodcut borders illustrated with various classical scholars and writers, and the nine muses with Homer at bottom. The only citation we have found regarding an artist for the title page, is the Art Institute of Chicago, stating it is Hans Holbein, the younger, which would indeed make this leaf that much more desirable. Otherwise, the artist is unknown in our search. Mounted on a larger plain leaf. Suitable for framing. Citations: VD16: 100 4076. Art Institute of Chicago (2014.25) claims the title page is illustrated by Hans Holbein. First edition, and only known edition without Johann Froben listed on the title page. Scarce.
