Autorenporträt : Gustav Edmund von Grunebaum, geboren als Gustav Edmund Ritter von Grünebaum (geboren am 1. September 1909 in Wien; gestorben am 27. Februar 1972 in Los Angeles), war ein US-amerikanischer Arabist, Orientalist und Experte des Mittleren Ostens österreichischer Herkunft. An der Universität Wien erwarb er einen Doktorgrad in Orientalistik. 1938, nach dem Anschluss Österreichs, musste er in die USA emigrieren, wo er zunächst am Asia Institute in New York City unter Arthur Pope tätig war. Ab 1943 arbeitete er an der University of California in Los Angeles, wo er 1949 eine Professur für Arabisch erhielt. 1957 wurde er Direktor des neu gegründeten Near Eastern Centers der University of California. Zu seinen wichtigsten Werken zählt sein vielfach nachgedrucktes Buch über die muslimischen Feste.(aus Wikipedia). Sprache: Deutsch.
