(illustrator). 159 pp, 10 1/4" H, cream cloth spine with b&w lettering/decoration, paper-covered boards, front board with illustration of two boys sharing a picnic with spaniel lying in front of them. No date, but Christmas gift message on front free endpaper is dated 1941. 6 colour plates (including frontispiece) - one each by Frank Hart (sledding), Studdy (motorcycle/motorcyclist), Warwick Reynolds (football/soccer game) & 3 others - all present. Additional b&w illustrations throughout text. Contents: The Secret of Mundy Island: A Scouting Story; When School House Rebelled: The Tale of a Barring-out; Ellison's Elephant: The Tale of a Terrible Pet; The Lame Duck: A Tale of Luging in Switzerland; An Adventure with Dingoes, by Charles T. Jackson; "And Some There Be", by A. Harcourt Burrage; The Secret of the School, by Wallis Grey; Born in the Blood, by C. Bernard Rutley; Ginger for Pluck, by Reg. G. Thomas; Grizzly Bears. Patchy light browning on the endpapers, scattered light foxing marks throughout the book and to the edges of the text block, a few page gutters with browning, several light separations between page gatherings but pages are firmly held in the binding, moderate edge wear - heavier at the corners of the boards, wrinkling at the top/bottom of the spine with small tears, light rubbing, a faint liquid mark on the front board, light lean to the spine. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. G. E. Studdy (illustrator). 1st Edition. This copy is in fine condition quarter bound in blue cloth to illustrated paper covered boards, illustrated by the artist. This copy is bright, tight, white and square. There is a neat gift inscription to the obverse of the f.e.p. from 'Mary' believed to be in the same hand as Mrs Studdy dated 11-4-24. (see my listing of Puppy Tails on this site. A dust wrapper is not called for. International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased postal rates will be quoted, where the book weighs less then postage will be reduced accordingly. I am also selling a companion volume ' Puppy Tails' similarly signed in the same hand. Bonzo the Dog is a fictional cartoon character first created in 1922 by British comic strip artist George Studdy. The pup quickly rose to popularity in the 1920s. He starred in one of the world's first cartoons, became an inspiration for mass-marketed merchandise, and became a favourite among children and adults. Ref WWW 3.
