"Dan George, a member of the Co-Salish tribe, was born on the Burrard Reserve in North Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1899. As a child, he lived as his people had always lived, helping his parents to harvest the seafood, the berries and the salmon, preserve it and put it away for winter use. He learned the crafts and traditional ways. Until he was sixteen, he attended St. Paul's Boarding School in North Vancouver, and left to become a logger. Married three years later, he worked as a longshoreman on the Vancouver waterfront and continued until an injury in 1946 made this impossible.".

First Edition Signed
HC. Hirnschall, Helmut, illustr., (illustrator). First Edition 96 pp, Drawings Signed by illustrator on the title page. Facsimile note by Dan George on front end paper opposite title page, with facsimile signature; same on back of dust jacket. I have seen this book offered as 'signed by author.' However, the first edition was published in 1982, Dan George died in 1981.His first book "My Heart Soars," which was published in 1974, does indeed exist signed by him. Good; some discolouring and small watermark on back cover, same at that inside of dj, which has also some light rubbing on outside.
