(Hardcover, 1960). 1960 1st edition. 8vo (141 x 220mm). Pp183. B/w photograph plates. Green cloth, spine titled in gilt. Well used, spine frayed, Boots Library label. Reading copy only, lacks dust-wrapper. Canadian, Tex Geddes, was Gavin Maxwell's first employee when he started his basking shark fishery in the Western Isles, just after the Second World War, (described in Harpoon At A Venture.) This is the story of Tex's own exploits, setting up his own shark fishing operation on Soay, of salmon poaching and ring-netting for herring, and of the eventual evacuation of the Soay islanders in 1953. A great read .
