    Condition: Very Good. FIRST UK EDITION, SIGNED BY AUTHOR. 8vo, pp. 141, (1) + b/w illustration by Leonard Baskin. Original green cloth, spine lettered in silver. Pushing to spine ends. Uneven tanning to edges, top edge spotted. Signed by Fainlight in black pen to title page, musty. Else, clean and tight. In Gerald Rogers-designed green typographic dust jacket: edgewear and creasing, especially at spine ends, a few nicks at extremities. Still, a pleasing copy of Fainlight's poetry collection, originally published by the Gehenna Press in the US. Very good/ very good The US-born UK-based poet, translator and librettist (1931-) won the Cholmondeley Award for Poetry in 1994. A new edition of Sybils was published by the Poetry Society in 2007, the year Fainlight was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.

The type is van Krimpen's Spectrum cast & set at Golgonooza Letter Foundry. The woodcuts were printed in color by Arthur Larson, the letterpress by Daniel Keleher, both of Hadley, Mass. The edition is arranged as follows: eight copies, numbered 1-8, have an extra suite of woodcuts printed in black and white, an impression in color from an additional woodcut, a drawing by Leonard Baskin, and one of the blocks. Eighteen copies, numbered 9-26, comprise the regular edition. This is copy no. 22 [of the regular edition], [signed] Leonard Baskin Ruth Fainlight". Size of outer, cloth-covered clam-shell box: 16 1/4 x 23 3/4 x 1 3/4", containing a cloth-covered portfolio with title label on front cover; with 14 printed folios on handmade (Moulin du Gue) paper (including title page & colophon page, with unsigned, color woodcuts), & 12 folios with printed poem on left & mounted, color woodcut on Japanese (Hosho & Sekishu) papers, on right hand page, each signed & numbered (22/26) under the lower edge.
