Short, squat copy in hardcover, original publisher's full leather bindings, blind-stamped ruling to boards front and rear, four blind-stamped Xs to corners of both front and rear panels, five raised bands to spine, gilt tooled title to black leather label at spine, five blind-stamped crosses there. Split of half an inch to upper rear spine joint, scattered penned comments by previous owner in margins, unobtrusive. Red-stained along all edges, quite fine. Fine colored endpapers front and rear. Latin language throughout. Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus (28 October 1466 ? 12 July 1536) was a Dutch Christian humanist, a Catholic theologian, an educator and philosopher, above all else, a huge figure in Northern Renaissance history and culture. He was useful also for translating new Latin and Greek editions of the New Testament relevant to both Reformation and Counter-Reformation debates.
