Hardcover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. Limited Edition. A 10 ½ in. x 12 in. folder covered in brown leather; the leather is deliberately wrinkled and on the front cover studded with small beads with corner bosses and a raised skull-like figure with 'eyes' and furrowed brow. The pages are hand-made paper, some with the texture of a thin cloth; most of them have been burnished to create the aura of an ancient document. There are forty-eight leaves (96 pp., although some versos are blank). Interlaced with these are a number of thin sheets acting as tissue guards, possibly separating (what can be called) 'chapters.' These leaves alternate between those presenting color drawings of mythic animals, monsters, and landscapes, and those containing text. This text is composed of small squiggles neatly arranged: eight per line, ten lines per page. These squiggles are, supposedly, the written language of an ancient race of humanoids, telling the history of this ancient culture. Loosely laid-in are two sheets with hand-written text, one of which tells how the 'book' was found, the other being the beginning of a translation of the first pages of the 'book.' (It is all very imaginative.) An artist's book. It is the rarest of the rare: only this copy is in circulation, and only two other copies were made. In pristine condition. Signed by Author(s).
