Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: near fine. First edition. Small square quarto. 32pp. [50 pages of plates] [1]. B/w and orange photo illustrated dust jacket, with black lettering on the spine. Grey buckram boards, with black lettering on the front cover and spine. Jacket protected in its original tissue paper wrappers, as issued. A finely produced Hungarian monograph on the work of acclaimed and influential Swedish architect Erik Gunnar Asplund (1885-1940). Asplund was notable for his contributions to the Nordic Classicism architectural movement in early 20th century, and later to modernist architecture. His most famous work includes the Stockholm Public Library, the Gothenburg City Hall Extension, and Skogskyrkogĺrden (The Woodland Cemetery) outside of Stockholm, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. He is among the most influential Nordic modernist architects, and was mentor to the famed Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. The first section of the book consists of a text discussion and appraisal of Asplund's work by Hungarian architect Elemér Nagy (1928-1985), followed by 50 pages of b/w reproductions after original photographs, architectural plans and measured drawings of Asplund's work, including text captions. Text throughout in Hungarian. Wrappers, dust jacket, binding and interior in near fine condition overall. A beautiful copy. Scarce.
