Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. (1965), 12mo, 96pp, illustrated, 5x7 photo of Stevenson laid-in. G+ in G dj which has a three inch closed tear on the front panel. A collection of anecdotes by, and about, Adlai Stevenson, II, (1900-1965), who served as Governor of Illinois and ran against Eisenhower twice for the presidency. In 1960 he had decided to run again, but failed to secure the nomination away from JFK. However, he was later appointed as US Ambassador to the United Nations by Kennedy. Although one of the first of the so-called 'egghead' intellectuals Stevenson had a great sense of humor. After one of his presidential campaign speeches, a very sincere and obviously moved young woman grabbed his hand and blurted out:"Governor, I'm sure you'll have the vote of every intelligent person in America." To which he replied: "Madam, that won't be enough.".
