This work analyses the work of Plato in helping to answer the timeless questions of humanity such as 'why are we here?' and 'what is our purpose?'.The Shrine of Wisdom is a publishing house of works of religious, philosophical and mystical significance. It was founded in 1919 and is still in operation. From the library of Lord Raglan, Fitzroy John Somerset. Raglan"s great-great-grandfather was Field Marshal Fitzroy Somerset, 1st Baron Raglan and hero of the Battle at Inkerman and Alma in the Crimean War. He also served as military secretary to the Duke of Wellington. He died in the Crimea in 1855. The house in which the library was situated, Cefn Tilla Court, was purchased by the Raglan Memorial committee for his descendants. Lord Raglan was a keen collector of anthropology and folklore, with many of the works in his extensive library focusing upon this topic. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Fourth Edition; Third Printing. 53 pp. Small octavo. Pale blue paper dust jacket with black, sunned at the edges and spine, bit crispy at top edge, flaps intact. Book has date written in ink at the gutter of the inside front cover, occasional tick marks in the margins throughout, most in pencil but a few in black ink -- neatly done but still there. Otherwise a very nice copy. "The high esteem in which the Trismegistic writings were held, both by philosophers and the early Church fathers, is strong evidence of their authenticity. They contain, expressed in the language of Greek philosophy, the Egyptian Wisdom, which is in one sense the foundation upon which Greek thought, from Plato onwards, is built. . In the words of Cornelius Agrippa, "The Pymander is a book most choice for the elegance of its language, most weighty for the abundance of its information, full of grace and propriety, full of wisdom and mysteries. For it contains the profoundest mysteries of the most ancient theology, and the arcana of all philosophy." ; Shrine of Wisdom Manual; Vol. 7; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 53 pages.
