Grey coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured embossed titles to the front panel and back strip. Plaintext dustwrapper with blue, gilt and white coloured titles to the front panel and blue coloured titles to the back strip. A series of short stories, by such authors as Boccaccio, Anton Chekhov, Strindberg and Sinclair Lewis, with two common threads  all of the writers of the tales are non-Jews & all of the tales deal with Jewish themes. The selection encompasses 23 authors, from nine different languages (some translated into English for the first time), and quoting from the from rear panel blurb " . All of them are free (the stories) from vulgar prejudices and place the discussion on high moral and intellectual plane." Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with bumping to the top book corners and rubbing to all corners. There is flecking of the book panels with some faint foxing also present. Light tanning and foxing of the text block edges with age toning of the pages. Original bookseller's rubber stamp to the top left hand corner of the front paste-down. The top right hand corner of the free front end page has become creased. The dustwrapper is in nasty shape  please see photograph. The front fold over panel has come away from the rest of the dustwrapper. Chipping, rubbing and creasing of the dustwrapper edges and along the fold over creases. Sunning, rubbing and staining of the dustwrapper and there are tears to the dustwrapper edges  from 0.25: to 1.25". Some sunning and staining to the verso. Second Impression.
