The boards are rubbed and the spine chipped head and tail; the front end paper is missing and the hinge between the title page and the frontispiece has been reinforced with acid free tape, while the half title page has two short closed tears along the outer edge. It's not a pretty copy, but it is clean and the binding very good. Frontispiece by Frank E. Schoonover. xi, 348 pages. The book weighs under 500 grams, please check with us for an accurate postage cost. "At the end of A PRINCESS OF MARS, the first volume in Burroughs's Mars series, John Carter managed to get the factory that produces oxygen for Barsoom working again -- and collapsed. When he came to, he found himself back on earth, and separated from his beloved Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Helium. It's a decade later when Carter returns to Barsoom, and he finds himself in that part of the planet that the natives consider to be "heaven" -- which is no heaven at all. Carter has to reunite with his friend the fierce green warrior Tars Tarkas, fight with plant men and the great white apes of Barsoom, violate some significant religious taboos, survive the affections of an evil goddess, foment a slave revolt, fight in an arena, and still save Dejah Thoris in the middle of a giant air battle between the red, green, black and white people of Barsoom. . . . High adventure, Martian style." (web).

Hardcover. Condition: Good to Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. Frank E Schoonover (illustrator). Reprint. An early G&D reprint of Burroughs' 2nd Mars novel. Frontispiece & DJ illustration by Frank E Schoonover. Lime green cloth with the title in a darker green curved band. This appears to be the first G&D printing from 1919 as there are no book ads in the rear. The DJ also appears to be G&D's1st as there are no ERB titles in the ". Handy List of Best Fiction ." on the rear panel of the DJ and only 1 ERB title (Princess of Mars) on the inside of the DJ. The book is clean with only minor wear. There is a gift inscription ("To John from Addie 1921") on the FFEP along with the PON (J H Hurt Summit, NJ).The DJ has browning to the spine, a thumbnail sized damp spot toward the bottom of the spine, a .25" x .75" horizontal hole above the damp spot, small loss at the head and tail of the spine, a .125" x 1" hole going down from the top left of the front panel, and the front flap is present but separated from the body of the DJ. Despite its flaws an overall good copy of the earliest G&D printing of this book.
