Paperback. Condition: Fair. Third Revised Edition. 137 pages. Index. Colour-photo plates. Name inside front cover, otherwise unmarked. Above-average external soiling and wear. Binding intact. A worthy vintage copy of this handy and informative reference. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
Condition: Poor. No. 601. Childen's Favorite Series No. 3. Leaves patented Jan. 15, 1907; Mar. 10, 1914. Animals are pictured in jungle and in circus settings. There are two leaves, the second of which has 4 horizontal cuts. This makes 6 flaps that enable various figures to be created. Volume is cut in the shape of an elephant, standing upright and dressed in a circus outfit; the front cover shows the elephant from the front, the back cover shows the elephant from behind. Front cover detached. Flap page has tape repairs. Tear in rear. Online descriptions suggest there were 12 p. originally, meaning much of this example is missing. Title continues: "Greatest show on earth: an up-to-date program of big circus acts: the newest and most attractive amusement features in the world exhibited for the first time in this delightful exhibition: by turning the little leaves of this book back and forth the pictures will match any way they are turned, showing 120 wonderful animals performing: the only show of strictly new and original methods: not for a day but for always.".

Self-printed colour-illustrated die-cut softcovers in shape of goose (minor scuffing, darkening to fore-edges, faint ownership at spine, wear at spine, w/ minor closed tear), still VG- copy. First edition of this installment in Garman's pioneering moveable activity book. Garman (1873-1961)began as a cartoonist with the Chicago Daily News with his comic series entitled The New First Reader which was a parody of primers, and with decided influences of Denslow in his illustration style. By 1903 he was issuing humorous animal stories for children, and later established his own company, Ideal Book Builders in order to publish and distribute his "Moving-Picture" series featuring moveable books, with some authored by his wife Kathryn.
