Book First Edition
No Binding. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Offered is an original, rare handbill entitled "DEMOCRATIC DELEGATES: Welcome to New York - BUT DON'T GET SICK HERE! - 1199ers ON STRIKE FOR A LIVING WAGE" (no date, although 1976) published by District 1199, National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees, AFL-CIO out of New York City. A single-sheet handbill printed on one side and measuring 8-1/2" by 11". Distributed during the 1976 Democratic National Convention held from July 12-15 at Madison Square Gardens in New York City. With an illustration of a sick donkey wearing a cold compress, the text includes: "New York City is a great place to visit, but you wouldn't want to get sick here. At least not now. Forty thousand of us have been on strike at the city's major voluntary hospitals since July 7. We'd rather be tending patients. There's one simple reason we're out on the sidewalks: Management has refused to negotiate, refused arbitration, refused compromise of any kind - We did all we could to avoid this strike - Most of our members take home less than $160 a week - We're not asking for the moon, just a decent living wage." Previously folded and a bit creased; lightly sunned along the edges.
