Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Sandra Dionisi (illustrator). 1st Edition. [240pp]: [viii], 232 (last three leaves blank); gilt black cloth, jacket ($24.95 on flap); 223 x 142 x 21 mm. An apparently unread copy of the author's seventh volume of fiction & sequel to the GG award-winning Nights Below Station Street (1988), inscribed ffe: "To Mother / December 1990 / David". However the author's mother, Margaret Adams, died 13 January 1978. This copy was procured with another book inscribed by Richards, from the library of Elda Magill Cadogan (1916-2003), one of his earliest supporters. She & her husband George owned the Newcastle North Shore Leader, in which notice of the Norma Epstein Award to Richards appeared (28 November 1973), constituting the earliest public report of his literary achievements. A possible explanation for the inscription is that the author may have addressed Elda as "mother" in person, both in affectionate deference to her interest in his work, & in a playful display of endearment. Inscribed by Author(s).
