Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 59, 213pp., blue cloth unevenly faded, but a very good copy. Derozio (1809-31) was of Eurasian descent and wrote in English but considered himself Indian and is often cited as modern India's first nationalist poet. He was hailed as a genius in his early teens, appointed to the staff of the new Hindu College in Calcutta at the age of seventeen, proved an inspiring influence on his pupils, was sacked for his radical views two years later and died of cholera aged twenty-two.
