Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning.

3 volumes hard cover lacking dust wrappers. 430pp; 415pp; 441pp. Spines are sunn ed, boards a litlle worn at edges/corners, volumes I and II have whited out details at top right of front feps, all 3 volumes have mildly browned pages; good copies. This history of the RAF was officially commissioned in 1947 and the authors were given full access to official secret documents and other reports. The authors also drew on the records of the enemy and personal records. Volume I covers re-armament and pre-war planning, early war operations, Norway and France, the Battle of Britain and The Blitz, the bombing of Germany, air operations in the war at sea, and the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Volume II looks at The Far East, the U-boat war and anti-shipping operations, the Western Desert, Malta and Tunisia, the strategic bombing offensive, Sicily, and the invasion of Italy (with subsequent operations to the fall of Rome, May, 1944). Volume III deals with the combined bombing offensive, the Atlantic and the Bay of Biscay, the liberation of north-west Europe plans and preparations, Normandy and the battle for France, flying bombs and rockets, Italy and the Balkans, the advance into Germany and the final surrender, victory in Burma and the Far East, and the war in the air.
