There is a previous owner's inscription on the half-title page, and the top of the spine is bumped and slightly wrinkled. Most of the histories collected here were written by. Artists, writers and curators who have had some kind of direct involvement or investment in the artistic practices that are here addressed in a manner distinct from that typically synchronic idiom of writing, art criticism" -- from the preface by Stan Douglas. Includes Marcia Crosby, Sara Diamond, Maria Insell, Robert Linsley, Robin Peck, Nancy Shaw, Keith Wallace, Scott Watson, Carol Williams & William Wood. Locale:. (Art--Canada, Art Criticism).

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Nancy Dyer (illustrator). Revised Gaige Edition. Price clipped dust jacket has light stains and edgewear, spine edge has darkened, back panel has dimples. Top corner of front end page has been clipped, gift inscription dated 1953, otherwise text is very clean and well bound. Andre Simon was the founder and head of the Wine and Food Society. He was said to have one of the most sensitive and widely respected palates in the world as well as a collection of the best recipes in any language. Crosby Gaige, Chairman of the New York Wine and Food Society, has made a thorough revision of this aristocrat of cook books, using American weights and measures and confining the menus to foods available in American markets. There are 52 menus for two kinds of occasions: small informal luncheons, and the more important meals, including a banquet of forty. To Monsieur Simon's discussion on French wines, a section of American wines has been added, written for this 1948 edition by Frank Schoonmaker. With five very charming colour illustrations by Nanct Dyer.
