Decorative Wrappers. Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Illustrations. In this little pamphlet the author describes the origin of "Plygain (or Plygen)", the three Masses of Christmas, which are believed to be as old as the Celtic Church that took refuge in the Welsh hills. "This singing of the Plygain continued until the Protestant Reformation, when the reformers took over the term and applied it to an all-night sing on Christmas Eve". The author describes Christmas traditions in Wales such as the "Hodening Horse"; the singing of Christmas carols from house to house; the New Year's Day celebration of "Dydd Calan"; etc.

Decorative Wrappers. Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Illustrations. The author relates some of the superstitions, traditions and stories surrounding the celebration of Christmas in Germany. Walking through the winter corn on Christmas Eve is profitable; you will hear all that is going to happen in the village during the next twelve months. If you fail to eat beans on Christmas Day, you will become an ass. He recounts the story of the writing of the Christmas carol "Stille Nacht, Beilige Nacht" ("Silent Night, Holy Night"), and the Christmas carol attributed to Martin Luther, "Luther's Cradle Hymn" ("Away in a Manger").
