Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Paperback Edition. John Craven's of John Craven's Newsround on front and back cover. . In 1951, a man living in a log cabin beside the St. Lawerence river in Canada was attacked by a burglar. During the ensuing fight a safe was thrown in the river, the cabin set on fire and the man murdered. Forty years later the safe was recovered from the river and opened to reveal a 12d black stamp in mint condition worth over £19,000 at today's value. This is one of the many stories by John Craven in the first part of the book. In the second half Richard West explains the practical aspect of stamp collecting - how to choose an album, how to use tweezers and hinges, floating stamps off envelopes, arranging and displaying stamps. You may never find a rare stamp with a romantic and exciting story to it but you will certainly get hours of enjoyment from this hobby. Illustrated. Very slight shelf wear to bottom of spine.
