Title page notes 137a, Rev 1/63 (presumably the manual identifier and revision date). Comb. "The CDC 1604 was a 48-bit computer designed and manufactured by Seymour Cray and his team at the Control Data Corporation (CDC). The 1604 is known as one of the first commercially successful transistorized computers. (The IBM 7090 was delivered earlier, in November 1959.) Legend has it that the 1604 designation was chosen by adding CDC's first street address (501 Park Avenue) to Cray's former project, the ERA-UNIVAC 1103. A cut-down 24-bit version, designated the CDC 924, was shortly thereafter produced, and delivered to NASA." (wikipedia) Rare, with no copies in OCLC as of this writing.

Condition: good. Approx. 200 pages. 3-hole folder bound, illus. (some in color), diagrams. Name of previous owner and Pentagon room number on title page. Covers somewhat worn and soiled, production representative of internal corporate reports. Copy #7 of a limited production. It is not clear how many copies were made, but since some of the illustrations are color prints the assumption is that only a handful were produced. This is an internal Control Data Corporation evaluation by their Microcircuits Division of seven Soviet circuits that they had received the previous October. A primary internal conclusion was that CDC expected "the Soviet's semiconductor technology to follow an evolutionary course similar to that of Japan. " In the Conclusion section it states "The results of this investigation suggest that the Russians are capable of manufacturing complex integrated circuits. The workmanship of the Russian devices appears to be comparable to similar American made devices. " This report bears no proprietary notations. This kind of corporate technology analysis rarely surfaces in the marketplace. Presumed First Edition/First Printing Limited number produced.
