First edition; 8vo, xxxi, 831 pp., mostly unopened, original pebble-grained green cloth decorated in gilt and black, a fine copy. A fine copy of Clarke's translation of the first part of Nizami's history of Alexander the Great containing Alexander's life and accomplishments. Nizami wrote a further part detailing Alexander's philosophy and ideas. Clarke (1840-1905), the grandson of a former chairman of the East India Company, made a career in India before returning to England and making fine translations of Persian classics.
