Jae Carmichael (1925-2005) Was A Pasadena Area Artist And Art Educator Known For Her Watercolors, Sculpture, Murals, Oils And Films. She Studied At Mills College (Oakland) 1942-1944, Then At Claremont Graduate School, Mfa 1955; And Then At The University Of Southern California, Where She Received A Bfa In 1951, And A Phd In Art History And Cinematography In 1972. Carmichael Studied Art With Francis De Erdely, Millard Sheets, Phil Dike, Dong Kingman And William Gaw. In 1953, She Became A Member (And Later Member Of The Board 1959-1960 & 1970-1972); Director Of The California Water Color Society And Exhibited In The Annual Shows Thereafter. She Was A Director Of The Pasadena School Of Fine Arts, Member Of The Board Of The Pasadena Society Of Artists 1958-1960, 1962, And 1963, And President 1970-1972, A Member Of The Board Of The Los Angeles Art Association 1965-1969, And A Member Of The American Watercolor Society. In 1962-1966 She Owned And Operated The Wooden Horse Gallery In Laguna Beach, With Shows For Many Well-Known California Artists, Including An Early One-Woman Show For Sister Mary Corita (Kent). Carmichael Staged More Than 200 Solo Exhibitions In Galleries In Los Angeles, Japan And Europe.
