Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. viii, 232 pages, illustrated. The plates and sketches are all present, but the page numbering confusing. The sketches often match the page number rather than the page they are supposed to be facing. The map of the Chitral expedition is supposed to face page x, except there is no page x, the numbering stops at viii. The Contents suggests there are no pages missing, though page viii and the map are tightly glued together, so this could be a printer's fault. One plate is loose, that of Lieut. H.K. Harley, else a clean, unmarked and solid copy. "The Chitral Expedition was a military expedition in 1895 sent by the British authorities to relieve the fort at Chitral which was under siege after a local coup. After the death of the old ruler power changed hands several times. An intervening British force of about 400 men was besieged in the fort until it was relieved by two expeditions, a small one from Gilgit and a larger one from Peshawar." (Wikipedia).
